During the Mobile World Congress last February 2010, Sony Ericsson unveiled the three latest additions to their collection of mobile phones, the Vivaz Pro, Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Out of the three mobile phones, the Android X10 Mini Pro was the only phone that surprised mobile phone users.

This is because the Mini Pro seems to have no features that are any different from the Mini except that the Mini Pro comes with a QWERTY keyboard. So let’s take a look at the design, features and price of the Mini Pro and see if it’s worth the consideration.

Design

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro comes in the classic and chic colors, black and red. It has a 2.55 inch thin film transistor (TFT) capacitive touch screen with 240 by 320 pixels. The TFT technology provides the Mini Pro with best resolution. At the four corners of the screen, instead of soft-keys, Ericsson placed four contextual buttons which can be customized depending on the preference of the user. The Mini Pro also comes with a QWERTY keyboard which uses the modern-day keyboard layout of typewriter keyboards and English-language computers.

This keyboard adds a little weight into the Mini Pro making it heavier than the Mini with a weight of 120 grams. The Mini Pro is probably one of the smallest Android phones ever produced. It has dimensions of 90 by 52 by 17 millimeters. This makes the Mini Pro very handy.

Features

The Mini Pro runs the Android 1.6 operating system. The unit is said to come with a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor. This processor is an upgrade of the older generations of MSM72xx series which makes the Mini Pro significantly faster than other phones that uses older generations of MSM72xx.

Like all other smartphones, the Mini Pro also comes with 3G HSDPA and HSUPA as well as WiFi 802.11b/g for internet connections. The Mini Pro also caters to data transfer via Bluetooth (for wireless) and microUSB (for cabled).

Although the Mini Pro’s internal memory is only 128 MB, it has a microSD card slot which can expand the memory of the Mini Pro up to 16 GB.

The Mini Pro also comes with a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash. The camera has autofocus feature for better photo quality.

What Sony Ericsson really brags about are the applications that come with the Mini Pro, the Timescape and Mediascape. With the Timescape application, Mini Pro users can place e-mail, text and social networking such as Facebook and Twitter, basically all communication requirements of a contact in one place. Mediascape, on the other hand is focused on multimedia. The Mediascape application allows users to see all videos, music and photos. What’s amazing with this application is that videos from YouTube and PlayNow are all archived logically.

Price and Release Date

The Mini Pro is expected to be available in the market by May 2010. The initial price of the Mini Pro will be £249.99 which makes it more affordable than its big brother, Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson has also just announced two new phones that will be of interest to fans of the Xperia line, the Spiro and the Zylo.
